Bible Study: Apologetics & The End Times (Part 2)

MODERN BIBLE STUDY GUIDE: AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF LOT

Topic: Apologetics & The End Times (Part 2) Focus: Understanding Biblical Prophecy Without Fear

INTRODUCTION: THE SHIFT IN TRUTH

To understand the End Times, we look at the patterns of the past. Last week’s study focused on the “Days of Noah,” a time when people were simply distracted and ignored the truth.

However, the “Days of Lot” are different and feel a bit heavier. In Lot’s time, society didn’t just ignore truth; they actively started to redefine it and resist it. A future global system cannot function unless truth becomes unstable first.

PART 1: WHEN SIN DEMANDS AGREEMENT

In the story of Sodom, the core issue wasn’t just sexual immorality; it was a culture that completely lost its restraint of human appetite.

  • Temptation Became Identity: When a culture repeatedly rewards and glorifies its impulses, boundaries are removed, and human desire becomes a person’s entire identity.
  • The Demand for Affirmation: The spirit of the age doesn’t just want tolerance; it demands agreement and celebration. People seek affirmation to remove their internal tension; if everyone agrees with them, they no longer have to question their actions.
  • Conditioned for Compromise: A future system will require people to surrender their convictions for comfort. Deception captures the mind long before any system tries to control a person’s actions.

PART 2: THE ILLUSION OF “NORMAL”

When God judged Sodom, the city wasn’t falling apart. People were eating, drinking, buying, selling, and building.

  • Functionality is Not Righteousness: Sodom’s greatest deception was that its society was fully functional. The markets, roads, and economy were all humming along smoothly.
  • The Danger of Smooth Operations: We naturally assume that if society is advancing and technology is working, we must be doing something right. Today, we are technologically advanced on the outside, but we are rotting on the inside.
  • The Trap of Convenience: The future End Times system will feed off convenience. People will trade their freedom, privacy, and convictions simply because it is easier to “go along to get along”.

PART 3: THE DISAPPEARANCE OF PEACE

Jesus warned that the last days would be filled with “wars and rumors of wars,” but He also explicitly told us, “See to it that you are not alarmed”.

  • An Age of Instability: The world is becoming a civilization that simply cannot calm down, marked by constant political, economic, and emotional exhaustion.
  • The Red Horse: In the Book of Revelation, the opening of the second seal (the red horse) actively removes peace from the earth. This means even when there isn’t active war, people will still feel anxious, fearful, and emotionally overwhelmed.
  • True Peace: You cannot medicate a spiritual problem. The world only offers peace when circumstances are good, but Jesus offers supernatural peace directly in the middle of the storm.

PART 4: SETTING THE STAGE

The events happening in the world today are not random; they are conditioning society for what comes next.

  • Disorientation and Desperation: The world is being shaken to make people feel anxious and confused.
  • Looking for a Savior: The world is not actually being prepared for a “beast”—it is being prepared for anyone who promises to step in and fix the chaos. The progression goes: Confusion -> Desperation -> Wonder -> Worship.

REFLECTION & DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Truth vs. Culture: How do you see modern society shifting from simply “ignoring” truth to demanding that everyone agree with new definitions of truth?
  2. The Convenience Trap: In what areas of life might we be tempted to trade our personal convictions for comfort or convenience?
  3. Protecting Your Peace: If global anxiety is part of the End Times environment, what are practical ways you can protect your mental and spiritual peace using your faith?

FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT: PREPARATION, NOT PANIC

Whenever we study Biblical prophecy, it is crucial to remember the goal: Prophecy is not given to make you panic; it is given to help you prepare.

Before the destruction of Sodom, God literally sent angels to grab Lot by the hand and drag him to safety because God does not want the righteous to perish. The exact same God who saw Sodom drifting sees our world today, and His rescue plan was written in advance. You do not have to be afraid of the future as long as you belong to the One who has already overcome it.
