Located in Toronto, Ontario, Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide Ministries was founded by Bishop Dr., Audley N. James. Through obedience and prayer he answered the call to ministry and on Sunday, April 26th 1980, Bishop James, his wife Rosenda, along with 21 adults and 13 children attended the first service at Bathurst Heights Secondary School. The ministry enjoyed several years of prolific growth, both numerically and spiritually. God’s anointing was evident in every service. Cell groups were established in 11 areas of what is now known as Metropolitan Lotherton Pathway, Malvern and Malton, to name a few. The establishment of these cell groups led to such growth that the church started operating numerous bus routes. The news of the Revivaltime’s blessing quickly spread throughout the city and Bishop James was invited to host the Night Lite program at 100 Huntley Street TV ministries, a role he performed for six years.
The need for a more permanent home and the immense congregational growth was quickly realized, and after much prayer and fasting (including a Jericho march around the desired property), a plot of land at 4340 Dufferin Street was purchased. Six years after its humble beginnings; on Sunday, April 27th, 1986, Revivaltime Tabernacle opened its doors to a 34,500 sq ft. sanctuary with complementary ministry facilities. This was indeed a milestone. For the first time in 129 years, Revivaltime Tabernacle became the first church in the African Canadian Community to build a place of worship in the Province of Ontario and only the second in Canada in the last century.
In March 1994, Revivaltime Tabernacle broadened its Ministry with the planting of a second church, Revivaltime Durham, in Pickering, Ontario, to serve the eastern section of the Greater Toronto Area. The Durham church was initially located at 400 Monarch Road. This cognation is now permanently housed in their own facility at 550 Kingston Road. Revivaltime Tabernacle now has ministries and/or partners in various parts of Africa and the Caribbean. To reflect this international expansion and exposure, the name of this ministry has undergone a slight change and is now known as Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide Ministries
Bishop Dr. Audley Neville James (1937 – 2019) was the Founder and beloved Senior Pastor of Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide Ministries (RTT). Bishop James was born in Trelawny, Jamaica and immigrated to Canada in 1969 at the young age of 32.
In 1980 he was commissioned by God to establish and pastor a church to reach the lost and dying in the city of Toronto. He embarked on an aggressive evangelical campaign and within eighteen months of the church’s inception, the congregation grew to over five hundred.
Bishop James was charismatic, dynamic and a well sought after speaker who ministered in Canada, USA, the West Indies, Africa and Israel. In addition to his pastoral duties at RTT, he served as Chaplain of the Jamaica National Building Society and the Jamaica Diaspora in Canada. In 2012 he was appointed International Advisor to the Pan African Parliament. He also held an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Canon University.
Rev. Rosenda Adelfiha James, born in St. Ann, Jamaica, is a distinguished Canadian Pastor, Certified Counsellor, Educator, Entrepreneur, and Community Leader. Rev. Rosenda is renowned for her pioneering contributions to faith-based education and her dedication to empowering youth and women. She attended medical school in England and worked as a Registered Nurse for 35 years. While raising her three children, she became increasingly concerned about The Lord’s Prayer being removed from the school system and decided to change the direction of her career. Her thoughts were on the next generation and their lack of a holistic education.
Driven by her belief that public schools had ceased to provide a well-rounded environment, she founded Adelfiha Christian Academy (A.C.A.) in Toronto, Ontario, in 1994. This great undertaking applauds Rev. Rosenda as the first Black woman to oversee the construction and opening of a school named in her honour in Canada, which was privately funded. The academy was initially housed in the basement of Revivaltime Tabernacle church, an organization she co-founded and pastored alongside her husband, the late and great Bishop Dr. Audley N. James, for 40 years. Revivaltime Tabernacle is the first Black-led church to build its own facility in Ontario in 129 years and the second in all of Canada in the 21st century.
The name Adelfiha, meaning “A Monument of God’s Love,” is Rev. Rosenda’s middle name, and it reflects her vision for the academy to be a place where the love of God is evident in the lives of both faculty and students. She emphasizes partnership with families to transform students’ character to impact the world.
